I bought the cheese because it looked unusual and had an interesting name:
When I unwrapped it the first thing I noticed was the strong smell. Seriously limburgerish. In the wrapper it looked like it had no rind, but once unwrapped I could see a little wispy white rind. The flavor is strong and different. Very sour, and also has a bite like strong mustard. And sharp white wine.
I bought the beer because I love Green Flash IPA and I am a sucker for anything with "hop" in the name.
It's solid, like their IPA. I'd like to try them side-by-side as I bet they are pretty similar. Anyhoo this one doesn't disappoint on the hops bitchblast. And it's red, as advertised:
Together: Not bad. The bitterness kind of piles up, but there is enough malty syrupiness in the beer to tame it. Although I appreciate the cheese, I don't really love it, and probably won't buy it again any time soon. After I try ever other cheese in the world I would try this one again however (unlike, say, mimolette, which tastes like salted wax). The beer is right up my alley and I would drink it again anytime.
